March 2 - March 27, 2010
Artist Reception: March 2, 2010 7-9pm

LZ Project Space is pleased to announce its inaugural show, Lime, Tangerine, Jetson, New Drawings by Mark Power. The artist’s latest group of drawings, inspired, in part, by the works of John Cage, engages the conceptual subculture of the familiar, innocuous and romantic thought process involved in the journey of personal lucidity.

In this work, the artist co-opts every level of visual perception and identification, to explore, nurture, compromise, and challenge both familiar, personal, and ubiquitous information, filled with colorful symbols, and pretty colors.

The artist’s “up for grabs” approach towards source material, allows for no hierarchical notions of class, culture, right or wrong, left or right to be involved.  The intention to only provide information, rather than describe, is the primary element in this work. The tracing from a travel snapshot of a line of trees, is turned into; a shape, hole, perimeter, that a happy boat floats in, like a cloud from a page in a Dr. Seuss book. Schmeers, pasted fragments, copies, traces  from the inside of an empty roll of tape, all are collected and organized, to both challenge the formal notions of a rectangle, and to happily place these disparate elements together in yet another format, as they can  take on the role, as objects. And the journey begins once again.
Happy Trails.
